As a consequence of the additions to the staff of this department ordered in 1890, more important work has been allotted to myself and I beg respectfully to draw your Lordship's attention to the Volume of Observations and Researches for 1892, p. 6, para. 19 of the departmental report, - in which the Director shows how the work is distributed - and also to the "Report on the Typhoons of 1892."
5. Increased responsibility with regard to the work has been placed upon me and I respectfully submit that my salary is, at present, not commensurate with the duties I am called upon to perform and I therefore ask that my salary may be increased by fifty dollars ($50) per month.
